Dr. Hui-Li Gan is a professor of cardiac surgery, working at the Center of Cardiac Surgery of  Anzhen Hospital, Beijing, China, which is the largest cardiac surgery center in China. Dr. Hui-Li Gan received his medical degree and training in general and cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical School of Wuhan University, and received his specialty training at the Beijing Anzhen Hospital. He joined the staff at The Anzhen Hospital in 1998. In over 29 years of cardiac surgical clinical work, Dr. Hui-Li Gan has operated for more than 8500 cases of cardiac operations. From 2002 to now, Dr. Hui-Li Gan have completed more than 500 cases of pulmonary thromboendarterectomy procedures, which is the largest series of PTE procedure in china with 2% mortality.
Dr. Hui-Li Gan has been a major contributor on over 130 manuscripts. In 2011, he published the first book in the world about the pulmonary thromboendarterctomy, 《Pulmonary Embolism and Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy》. Then, he also published other three books in the field of pulmonary hypertension and coronary artery disease. These areas of clinical research have been diverse but primarily related to aspects of pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary artery sarcoma, coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease. He has undertaken clinical research on the management of lung ischemic-reperfusion injury (LIRI), and acute pulmonary hypertension in the surgical setting as well as written chapters on the management of pulmonary hypertension for both cardiology and critical care textbooks. Dr. Hui-Li Gan has acted as primary investigator for 5 research projects in China, and participated several international multi-center clinical research projects, such as CHEST1 and CHEST2 trails. Dr. Hui-Li Gan has made significant contributions to the field of pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension and remains a leader figure in this field.
