Enrico Heffler completed his M.D. and Post Graduate School in in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Torino, Italy. During the postgraduate school, Heffler had the opportunity to do an International Fellowship at Lung Health Institute, University of Leicester, Leicester, UK, working on a research project on obesity and asthma (ERS long-term Fellowship 2006). He also completed a Ph.D. Programme on “Experimental Medicine and Therapy” at University of Torino. Subsequently Heffler worked an Allergist at the Italian Health Care System in different hospitals in Piedmont region for about 6 years.
Since March 2015, Enrico Heffler works as Assistant Professor in Respiratory Medicine at University of Catania (Italy). During the last 10 years, his research was mainly focused on the study of inflammatory mechanisms of asthma, rhinitis and rhinosinusitis, human anaphylaxis, and food allergy. As far as now, Heffler authored more than 75 scientific articles published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and 3 book chapters. Heffler is actively involved in the activity of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) (he was the Junior Members & Affiliates JMA Chairperson and Executive Committee member from 2011 and 2013; currently he is a member of the Asthma Section Board) and of the Italian Society of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (SIAAIC) (Junior Members National Coordinator since 2006 and until 2014, member of the Executive Committee since 2011, and currently Secretary General of the Society since June 2014).
