Biography:
After completing his medical school and residency training in neurosurgery at the University of Ottawa, D. Sung-Joo Yuh completed the combined orthopedics and neurosurgery Adult Spine Fellowship at the University of Calgary, Foothills Medical Centre. He also undertook additional Pediatric Spine Surgery Traineeship at the Albert Children’s Hospital. He was awarded the prestigious Detweiler Traveling Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to help him complete his post-graduate training. During his fellowship training, Dr. Yuh learn various specialised fusion techniques (e.g ALIF, DLIF, TLIF) as well as motion preserving cervical/lumbar arthroplasties. This was complimented by the use of intraoperative neuronavigation and neuromonitoring. His subspecialty interest lays in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques for decompression, posterior instrumented fusions as well as complex spinal reconstruction. His clinical interest involves the surgical treatment of both primary and metastatic spinal tumors, and spinal cord tumors. He has a keen interest in spine clinical research. One of his current clinical researches involves examining the clinical and radiographic outcomes of adult spinal deformity surgeries done in the community hospital setting. Not only has he published various peer-reviewed articles, cases reports, book chapters, and review articles, he has been invited to act as a reviewer for the multiple spine journals, such as PLoS One, Laryngoscope, and JSM Neurosurgery and Spine.

Clinical interest involves the surgical treatment of both primary and metastatic; spinal tumors and spinal cord tumors.
