Biography: I have a PhD from University of New Mexico and MS and BS degrees from Vanderbilt University, all in special education with an emphasis on intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders. I have been doing research and consultation in the criminal justice system for over 30 years. My area of expertise is persons with intellectual disability and the death penalty.
Research Interest: My primary interest for the past 30 years has been criminal justice issues for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID). I authored the CAST-MR (Competence Assessment for Standing Trial for Individuals with Mental Retardation). I have published research on persons with ID's on understanding of Miranda and numerous articles on assessment of intellectual disabilities in capital cases.
