Dr. Scott Reid: Has worked at APHA in Avian Virology for 9 yearsand is Team Leader for the Molecular Resource team where he manages the molecular test portfolio for avian influenza and Newcastle disease. His team also has responsibility for surveillance testing for swine influenza. Dr. Reid is a member of the Avian Expert Group at the APHA and has considerable experience in molecular and conventional diagnostic test development and validation for use in the veterinary sector leading to authorship of more than 70 peer-review publications. Prior to joining the APHA, he held a lectureship in microbiology in Saudi Arabia and spent 14 years as a research scientist at the Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright (now The Pirbright Institute) where he managed Defra-funded projects aiming to improve molecular-based methods for diagnosis of foot-and-mouth disease and other vesicular diseases of wild and domesticated livestock.
