Dr. Khurram Owais is a practicing physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School. His research interests include the use of echocardiography and ultrasound in the perioperative setting as means of superior clinical decision-making, reducing procedural errors and improving surgical and anesthetic outcomes. He was one of the first to use echocardiographic derived data to prototype patient anatomy in the clinical settings. In addition, he has been extensively involved in the use of simulation training in echocardiography. He has also studied the impact of cardiopulmonary bypass on human myocardial cells of patients with diabetes. His work has been published and cited in the The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia and Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC: CV Imaging) amongst others.
